Jan
My name is Jan Hampton. I was born in
Nottingham, England on the 4th November 1940. I am the third child of
five and have two older brothers and two younger brothers (twins). When
I left school, I qualified as an Electrical Draughtswoman. When I came
to South Africa in 1969, I worked for 3 years as a Midwife in a nursing
home. After that, I worked for 6 years with both the SPCA and Animal
Anti-Cruelty League. In 1981 I moved to a large farm and started a
Centre for alcoholics which I ran for 15 years. I then moved back to
England in 1996 for two and a half years where I met James. When we came back
to South Africa in 1999, we founded the Hamptons Wildlife Care Centre.
We moved to Byrne in 2006 and are busy upgrading our facility with
larger enclosures. I have a son and daughter. My daughter is married
and has a son. My son isn't married yet but plans to do so
later this year. He worked for 14 years as a Game Ranger and is
presently in the UK. My oldest brother David is retired and lives in
Durban; my next brother Clive is a well known artist and ornithologist
in Johannesburg and my younger twin brothers live in the UK.
